Overview

On the Right Track? New Orleans Economic Development in Perspective provides an overview of economic development expenditures in New Orleans to give citizens and government with a better understanding of their investment.

The report takes a comprehensive look at the actors in New Orleans economic development in 2004, including: the City of New Orleans (primarily through the mayor’s office and City Council); federal agencies; state bodies such as the Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District and the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center; local special-purpose government entities such as the Algiers Development District, Audubon Commission, Downtown Development District, French Market Corporation, Industrial Development Board of New Orleans, New Orleans Building Corporation; and public and private tourism entities, such as New Orleans Tourism and Marketing Corp. and New Orleans Metropolitan Convention and Visitors Bureau (today New Orleans & Company).

BGR also provides a detailed summary of individual funding streams to supplement the report. These range from federal and state grants to local taxes, bond proceeds, tax abatements and exemptions.
