NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Bureau of Governmental Research released a new online dashboard designed to help residents in Orleans, Jefferson and St. Tammany parishes better understand their property taxes.
According to the BGR, the dashboard serves as an online resource for residents to get answers to questions including:
- What is my total rate?
- Where does the money go?
- How does a home’s value change its tax bill?
- Who sets the rate and levies each tax?
- How have rates changed over time?
The dashboard also includes a breakdown of property tax bills with charts and tables and a way to track “how voters and policymakers have directed this key local government revenue source to different purposes.”
BGR officials said the website also features informative videos and guides related to property taxes.
They said the resource will allow residents to learn more about the taxation system and make better-informed decisions when voting.
Orleans, Jefferson and St. Tammany parish residents can also find interactive charts for taxes in their area.
