New Orleans is considering one of the most significant changes to Sewerage & Water Board governance in the utility’s 127-year history.
City leaders are exploring whether many of the utility’s functions should move under city government, while a transition group called PUMPS examines how the process could work. Recent City Council actions have also expanded local oversight and introduced new funding and reporting requirements.
