Today the Bureau of Governmental Research announces that it has hired Emily Remington to the position of Director of Development. In this role, she will work closely with the Board of Directors, the Membership Committee, and the President and CEO to secure funding so that BGR may continue its award-winning, nonpartisan research to solve important local public policy problems.
Emily grew up on the coast of North Carolina and attended Wake Forest University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in Political Science. After completing a Master of Public Policy at George Washington University, she relocated to Austin, Texas, where she worked in the Texas legislature and for the University of Texas. Emily moved to New Orleans in 2008 to work at the Scott S. Cowen Institute for Public Education Initiatives at Tulane University, where she created and managed an Advanced Placement Training and Incentive Program, AdvanceNOLA. In 2014, Emily joined CASA Jefferson, Inc. as Executive Director. In 2015, she became the first Executive Director of the French Quarter Management District. Most recently, Emily was the Executive Director of 504HealthNet, Inc.
Emily is an alumna of the New Orleans Regional Leadership Institute (NORLI), the Bryan Bell Metropolitan Leadership Forum, and the Emerging Philanthropists of New Orleans. A former member of the Junior League, Emily has also served as the Chair of the Jefferson Chamber’s Education Committee and as an Ambassador for the New Orleans Chamber of Commerce. She currently serves on the Community Advisory Group for the PhD in Justice Studies program at the University of New Orleans, as the Treasurer for Women of NORLI, and as a vestry member for St. George’s Episcopal Church.
“We are thrilled to have Emily join our team. She is an accomplished fundraiser and a true connector of people, ideas and outcomes. We expect her background in public policy and nonprofit leadership will increase our organizational visibility and will contribute to BGR’s long-term success,” said Rebecca Mowbray, President and CEO of BGR.
Previously, BGR had the position of director of membership and engagement. The new position of Director of Development encompasses membership and broader fundraising for the organization.
