Today, the Bureau of Governmental Research (BGR) releases a new report that analyzes proposed 20-year property taxes for public libraries and housing that New Orleans voters will decide in the December 11 election. Each tax would replace an existing property tax that expires at the end of this year.
On the Ballot: New Orleans Library and Housing Taxes, December 11, 2021, seeks to help voters make informed decisions on the tax propositions. BGR’s report analyzes each tax proposition based on a series of questions that address the efficient and effective use of public resources. The report also explains BGR’s positions in support of the library tax, but against the housing tax.
