U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan praised the academic gains in New Orleans that followed Hurricane Katrina to a supportive audience Thursday (Dec. 11) at the annual luncheon of the Bureau of Governmental Research.

“The before and after story is pretty stark,” he said. “I’m just in awe of what this community’s done collectively.”

Listen to his speech.

You may need to increase the volume: Duncan is very tall and thus rather far from the microphone.
