Letters: Passage of West Bank millages crucial for hurricane protection

Thank you for your editorial in favor of the two West Bank millage proposals for hurricane protection. With a $4.2 billion federal investment in levees and flood control structures, we would be fools not to spend an average $5 per month to keep our homes and businesses safe.

At a public forum last week, the directors of the Lafourche and Terrebonne levee authorities were on a panel and explained how much they envy Algiers and West Jefferson for the massive upgrade in hurricane protection that they wish could be extended to their parishes. They urged passage of these proposals so that the investment of funds is not squandered.

Residents of the West Bank: This proposal is a big deal. We need to support it. The New Orleans Advocate, BGR, the homebuilders and real estate agents have endorsed it. It is up to us now.
