IG ENDORSEMENTS: The push for an inspector general’s office in Jefferson Parish has garnered a broad base of support among business groups and government watchdogs, including the Bureau of Governmental Research, Parish President John Young said this week.

Voters will decide Oct. 22 whether to create the new office to monitor government spending and practices.

Besides BGR, Young said the inspector general has endorsements from the Jefferson Business Council, the Jefferson Chamber of Commerce, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana, the New Orleans Metropolitan Association of Realtors, the Homebuilders Association of Greater New Orleans and the Harvey Canal Industrial Association. Young also said that two grass-roots organizations, Citizens for 1 Greater New Orleans and Citizens for Good Government, have also backed the new office.
