In response to threatened litigation by the Bureau of Government Research, the Orleans Parish Board of Assessors issued a statement saying that it had attempted work with BGR on its request for property records dating back to March.

BGR contends that the settled-upon fee of $4,525 is too steep, while the Board said the price was reduced from $12,000 and stems from BGR’s request for a customized, searchable database of the records’ ownership, property description and assessment information only.

The Board said BGR was first offered basic access to the digital records of 161,000 properties for programming fee of $500, as is the Board’s policy, the statement said.
