Orleans Parish Criminal
Sheriff
General fund revenues are derived from the following sources:
City of New Orleans
A consent judgment signed in 1989 by the City of New Orleans and OPCSO includes an agreement as to the form and amount of City payments for housing inmates. The agreement states: "Beginning with the calendar year 1991, the City agrees to pay the Sheriff, on a semi-monthly basis, $19.65 per inmate per day for every inmate he holds in custody for which he is not entitled by law to be reimbursed by the State of Louisiana or the United States Government". During the year 2000, the City also paid a sum of $1.5 million per year towards medical care provided to these inmates. In the year 2001, the City began paying 3 million per year for medical care provided to these inmates by OPCSO. In addition, the City reimburses OPCSO for services it provides to Criminal District Court.

State of Louisiana – Dept. of Corrections
The Louisiana Department of Corrections currently pays OPCSO $22.39 per day for the housing and $2.00 per day for the medical care of inmates sentenced to the Department of Corrections.
U. S. Government
Various Federal agencies are billed a per diem amount of $45 per day for the housing of Federal inmates. These agencies include the Department of Immigration, U.S. Marshall, Bureau of Prisons, the Navy, the Army, and Border Patrol.
State Supplemental Pay
The State of Louisiana through the Department of Corrections pays a supplement to deputies who are certified under Louisiana Peace Officer Standards and Training Program. Each deputy receives $300 per month. This is also available for municipal police officers and firefighters.
Other Revenues
Other revenues consist of inmate telephone charges, grants, parking lot rent, release processing fees, restitution administration fees, and a portion of bail bond fees, capital project reimbursements (year 2000), and special projects.
