Sep 21, 2017

On Tuesday, August 19, Johnny Bradberry and Mark Davis discussed the 2017 Coastal Master Plan at a BGR Breakfast Briefing in Covington.

Mr. Bradberry serves as the Governor’s Executive Assistant for Coastal Activities and the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) Board Chairman. He discussed the evolution of the Coastal Master Plan process from its first iteration in 2007 to the 2017 version. Focusing primarily on Jefferson, Orleans and St. Tammany Parishes, he showed the potential future land loss and increased flood risks over the next 50 years if no actions are taken. Both he and Mr. Davis stressed that some land loss is irreversible, but that the Plan is focused on saving and managing what remains.

Mr. Davis has spent the last 10 years as the Senior Research Fellow and Director of the Institute on Water Resources Law and Policy. This year he has also begun serving as Director of the Tulane University ByWater Institute, an interdisciplinary center focused on applied research and outreach to restore and protect the coast. During his presentation he focused on the importance of civic engagement and involvement as a driving force behind the Coastal Master Plan.
